journaling
To say that journaling has a bit of an impact on my life is an understatement.
Ever since I could write a sentence I have been keeping a journal or “diary” of my life. I wish I saw the value in myself and would have kept all of those journals. There are some moments I can remember so vividly though of my early days journaling. Like writing about my first slow dance and even drawing a picture to really show it or the textured green and purple lizard vibe journal that i had early on.
Using words to relay my feelings felt right and made sense. I was able to get everything out that I needed to without being interrupted. Finally! It was the first space I could share and be heard fully.
Here are 3 tips I have for you if you are starting your journaling journey:
Let it all out - this is your one space that is yours and protected and if someone reads it, they are crossing your boundaries and you can be upset with that person and tell them that. This is your judgement free space where you can release it all. If you feel yourself making judgements and hesitating to write something, take a few deep breathes and write about that instead. Get to the bottom on that feeling and where that intrusive thought came from originally. Release that and replace with love and acceptance of yourself.
Try to write everyday - the more often you are writing, the easier to will feel each time you open up your journal. You will build a trusting with yourself that that is a safe space to release. It’s okay if some days are “I don’t know what to write?”, it all is a part of the process.
Get a cute journal - get something you will want to pick up daily and write in. Seeing the cute journal will make you smile and bring joy to you!
You can always journal on your computer as well! Somedays it feels easier to type it out than it does to physically write it out. Either way, make it enjoyable! This is something that you are doing to nurture yourself and help yourself through your life. Below are a few journals I think would be great for you to get started!
